History
Oxmantown National School was built as a Model School in 1860. The beautiful limestone building with it's carved window and door surrounds was designed by Jacob Owen. In 1968 the school was changed from being a model school vested in the Department of Education, it was vested instead in the Representative Church Body of the Church of Ireland and given the name OXMANTOWN SCHOOL.
In 1983 the school was renovated internally but the exterior remains much as it was in 1860 and is in keeping with the architectural tradition which has been preserved in the town of Birr. A fourth classroom was added in 2013.
For the last 163 years, Oxmantown National School has welcomed children through it's doors as they embark on their learning adventure. We are proud of our diverse community. We are proud of the warm and caring family atmosphere that has remained a constant throughout the history of our beautiful school.
